Macau, September 19, 2021 – Wynn has been closely attentive to the needs and long-term development of local medical services. In order to further support the treatment of critically ill patients, Wynn and the Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association today jointly announced the launch of the "Wynn and Kiang Wu Critical Illness Assistance Scheme", which provides timely assistance for critically ill patients and their families facing financial difficulties, enabling them to overcome hardship. In launching the scheme, Wynn will initially allocate MOP 6 million as subsidy funding for 2021 and donate it to the Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association. According to the consensus between both parties, this plan will be ongoing with the effectiveness and needs reviewed annually, so as to enable the relevant resources to be allocated to help more people in need.

The "Wynn and Kiang Wu Critical Illness Assistance Scheme" press conference was held today at Wynn Macau. Linda Chen, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited and Chairman of the Wynn Care Foundation, and Lau Veng Seng, President of Board of Directors of the Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association, represented both parties to officially sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Other guests attending the event included: Zhang Sixian, Assistant of Department of Social Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Tang Yuk Wa, Acting Deputy Director of Social Welfare Bureau of the Macao SAR; Vong  Kok  Seng, Executive Vice President of Board of Directors of Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association; Ung Pui Kun, Vice President of Board of Directors and General Secretary of Kiang Wu Charitable Association, and President of Kiang Wu Hospital; Ung Choi Kun, Vice President of Board of Directors of Kiang Wu Charitable Association, etc.

Linda Chen said that the impact of the pandemic in the past year has enabled us to reflect on the importance of health in our lives, and has also fostered close collaboration between Wynn and Kiang Wu Hospital to jointly explore ways to improve cooperation in Macau's medical and nursing work. The "Wynn and Kiang Wu Critical Illness Assistance Scheme" is the result of a consensus by both parties on the need to provide timely assistance for patients and medical teams. The scheme is not just an act of kindness, but more importantly, the resources of the Wynn Care Foundation can be used effectively. The concept behind the scheme is to use professional evaluation and data analysis by the Kiang Wu Hospital team to calculate the scale of the fund and identify the recipients of assistance based on their past experience of handling high-risk clinical cases. The usage of the fund is also strictly monitored to enable relevant resources to specifically assist the groups in need.

The first phase of the scheme will target eligible Macao residents. Anyone who is not covered by government healthcare or insurance (patients aged 13 to 65), or those aged 65 above who are not included in the scope of government funding, can submit a funding application form from the patient or a family member for Kiang Wu Hospital to review according to the approval procedures. The funding amount from the relevant scheme will be incorporated into the Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association accounts for integrated processing, and the use of the funds shall be reported to Wynn on a regular basis to ensure that such expenditures are used appropriately.

Wynn and Kiang Wu Hospital have a longstanding cooperative relationship, working together to improve the health standards of Macao. By launching the "Wynn and Kiang Wu Critical Illness Assistance Scheme", Wynn hopes to extend medical assistance to critically ill patients in Macao and so alleviate their financial burden, meaning more patients will be able to get better treatment options in addition to their basic medical resources when facing major critical illnesses, and thereby helping residents in need overcome hard times.
