Macau, October 16, 2020 – Co-organized by Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. and the National Conditions Education (Macau) Association, the fourth 'Wynn Cup – Macau Primary School Student National Education Drawing Competition' award ceremony was held at Wynn Palace today. The competition attracted participation from 42 schools, approximately 10,000 primary school students and youngsters from cities across the Greater Bay Area.

 

In her keynote speech, Ms. Linda Chen, President and Executive Director of Wynn Resorts (Macau) S.A. and Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited, said that, "Although this year's awards ceremony was delayed compared with previous years due to the pandemic, the enthusiasm of the participating schools has remained high, with the children's creative imaginations being ever richer and their painting skills constantly improving. More importantly, children have a better understanding of the value and meaning of life, and are looking forward to Macau's bright future. Under the theme of 'My Greater Bay Area Dream – Drawing the future in my heart', the competition has encouraged local students to fully unleash their childlike and romantic imagination, and use the brushes in their hands to depict their vision for the Greater Bay Area. The organizer hopes that students can further develop aesthetic concepts, cultivating their ability to feel, express, appreciate and create beauty, and to strengthen noble moral sentiments, national pride and a sense of belonging.

 

The "Wynn Cup – Macau Primary School Student National Education Drawing Competition" award has been held annually since 2016. Each year, the competition sets a theme that resonates with mainland China and Macau. More than 40,000 local students have participated in the competition since its launch. It is scored by expert judges from diverse perspectives across all levels of awards, including individuals' and groups' first, second and third prizes. Winners were presented with honorary certificates, trophies and prizes. This year, nearly 10,000 entries were received that displayed a continuous improvement in painting technique. The number of schools involved also reached an all-time high of 42, representing nearly 60% of schools in Macau. There were also two newly-added special awards this year, including the 'Most Childlike Influence' and 'Most Popular Online Group' awards. This competition also invited children from various cities across the Greater Bay Area to participate by describing the customs of their hometowns and their dreams. The organizer also introduced a drawing collection with the theme "Fighting against the COVID-19 Pandemic", which attracted more than 1,000 submission. A total of 50 outstanding pieces were selected to be exhibited at the Wynn Palace Ballroom along with other award-winning works.

 

Nearly 1,500 students were awarded in the competition this year. Overall, there were 2 champions, 16 first prizes, 40 second prizes, 40 best prizes, 2 'most childlike influence' awards, 108 third prizes, 180 'anti-pandemic theme' awards and 961 merit awards in the individual category. For the group awards, 1 champion, 4 first prizes, 4 second prizes, 1 'most popular online group' award, 3 third prizes and 8 merit awards were given. 27 teachers and 36 teachers won the gold and silver guiding teacher prizes respectively.

 

At the award ceremony, Wynn again collaborated with the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM) to organize a fashion show themed "My Greater Bay Area Dream – Drawing the future in my heart". Local designers were invited to design parent-child travel outfits, which were then presented by 11 talented students from Premier School Affiliated to Hou Kong Middle School. Together, they created a wonderful children's art feast, leaving a beautiful and unforgettable memory for teachers and students. A total of 19 submissions were received for the fashion show. Each participant was required to design a parent-child travel outfit featuring the attractions from 11 Greater Bay Area cities based on the theme of the "9+2" urban characteristics of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The jury finally shortlisted 11 designs for public display in the form of a fashion show. In addition, the organizer cooperated with the I am Speaker Association of Macau for the first time this year to co-organize a "Little Speaker Workshop" during the summer, and invited 60 award-winning students and parents from the last edition of the Wynn Cup competition to attend the event and study together. Four primary school students who showed particular potential in speaking were selected to participate in a 7-week training course and acted as guest performers for this year's Wynn Cup awards ceremony. With the combination of drawing and speech, they jointly expressed their dreams of the Greater Bay Area.

 

While the award ceremony concluded successfully, it also marked the commencement of the fifth "Wynn Cup – Macau Primary School Student National Education Drawing Competition". Coinciding with the launch of a series of "Promoting Chinese Traditional Culture" programs co-organized by the Wynn Care Foundation and the National Conditions Education (Macau) Association, the fifth edition of the Wynn Cup competition will feature the theme of "Drawing the future in my heart – Promoting Chinese Traditional Culture". The competition aims to encourage local schoolchildren to paint China's rich and diverse traditional culture, highlight the charm of both traditions and modernity, as well as look at the Greater Bay Area and the world.
