Wynn Hosts “Art, Culture and Tourism Seminar: Silk Road Ceramic Journey・Macau's New Chapter”
Macao, July 21, 2025 – Porcelain art is reaching new heights and entering a new era. The “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025'” has now officially launched, and “Hello China, Hello Macao – The Odyssey of Jingdezhen Porcelain: A Heritage Voyage from Macao to the World,” the special exhibition presented by Wynn as part of the event, was inaugurated at Wynn Palace on July 18. The “Art, Culture and Tourism Seminar: Silk Road Ceramic Journey · Macau's New Chapter” was held on July 19 at the Palace Reserve Club, Wynn Palace, where renowned ceramic masters, cultural luminaries, and leading scholars from across China were invited to this seminar to celebrate porcelain and engage in a meaningful dialogue. The discussions focused on strengthening cultural bonds through ceramics, opening a new chapter of collaboration between Macao and Jingdezhen, and advancing Macao's grand vision for cultural diversity. The event was more than just a seminar—it was a gathering where the brightest minds and boldest ideas converged.
Ms. Linda Chen, President, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited noted in her speech that Wynn launched the cultural brand “Wynn Culture” with the mission of “integrating cultural heritage with innovation.” It is a brand aimed at the goal of “promoting outstanding Chinese traditional culture and fostering mutual exchange and appreciation between diverse civilizations” and adheres to three core principles: upholding integrity and innovation, engaging in dialogue with the world, and passing on traditions, and “Hello China, Hello Macao – The Odyssey of Jingdezhen Porcelain: A Heritage Voyage from Macao to the World” is the first signature project of the brand. Wynn Culture is not an isolated brand but an important organic component of “Cultural Macao” as a grand narrative. Looking to the future, Wynn will continue working with the SAR Government and all sectors of society to preserve Chinese culture, facilitate cultural dialogues and nurture young ambassadors, in the hope of fully showcasing Macao’s unique advantage as the “One Center, One Platform and One Base,” further propelling international cultural exchange, and injecting new momentum as Chinese culture advances to the global stage.
During Jingdezhen’s cultural tourism presentation, Mr. Han Xingwen, General Manager of Jiangxi Media Group and Chairman of Jiangxi Province Digital Culture Group, praised the exhibition as an effective initiative for Jiangxi and Macao to jointly advance the practice of “One Country, Two Systems” and promote cultural exchange and industrial cooperation. He noted that it perfectly aligns with the collaborative philosophy of “complementary advantages and equal cooperation” between Jiangxi and Macao, seamlessly integrating Jiangxi's “advantages in cultural resources” with Macao's role as an “international communication hub,” and marks a new starting point and significant milestone for digital cultural cooperation between the two regions.
Mr. Zhan Xinghua, Deputy Director of the Jingdezhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Publication and Tourism and Director of the Jingdezhen Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage, expressed hope for leveraging Macao’s unique regional advantages and cultural essence to build a new bridge for cultural exchange between China and other regions and foster a global dialogue on ceramic culture. She also hopes the “soft power” of ceramic culture can be harnessed to create a window connecting Portuguese-speaking countries with the rest of the world.
Mr. Wang Yuqi, cultural tourism promoter of Jingdezhen, invited the audience to start the journey from this lively international city to Jingdezhen, a city featuring millennia of porcelain craftsmanship, and experience the timeless allure and boundless creativity of its ceramic art in person.
During the keynote speech session of the seminar, Mr. Geng Dongsheng, a renowned artefact appraiser, researcher of the National Museum of China, and former Director of the Ceramics Institute of the Academy of NMC, mentioned that he submitted a proposal to expedite the nomination of Jingdezhen’s ceramic culture for the UNESCO World Heritage List at the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in 2020, in the hope of advancing the systematic preservation, dynamic transmission and innovative development of the culture. He noted that this exhibition is held with the responsibility of “facilitating the nomination of Jingdezhen's handmade porcelain heritage sites for the World Heritage List,” highlighting the city’s millennia-old ceramic culture using innovative technology and art, and he hopes that the event would not only inject new impetus into the nomination process but also add a splendid page to the diverse cultural exchanges in Macao. He also highlighted the Buccleuch Vases from the exceptional art collection of Wynn Macau, a key item featured in this exhibition. These vases serve as a vivid testament to Chinese ties with the world, reflecting the pinnacle of porcelain artistry in Jingdezhen during the Qing Dynasty and bearing witness to the flourishing cultural exchange between China and the West at the time.
Mr. Liu Lu, a renowned cultural scholar and the Director of the Classic of Mountain and Sea Research Institute, described the collaboration between Jingdezhen and Macao as a powerful alliance between two world-class cultural heritage powerhouses. He expressed his hope that the collaboration will showcase ceramic art featuring Oriental aesthetics and philosophy to the world in a more modern way that brings greater international exposure.
Mr. Song Ningjie, the promoter of Master Chang Shana’s artistry and founder of Beijing Ronghui Culture, said that profound history and culture have been added to this exhibition with Master Chang Shana serving as its chief aesthetic advisor and taking Peace Dove as an exhibit. The vision of peace and cultural vitality conveyed in Peace Dove echo with Macao’s missions of preserving traditions and building links under the “One Country, Two Systems” policy.
National first-class arts and crafts designer Ms. Zhang Sihua remarked that the key to writing a “new global chapter” for Jingdezhen’s ceramics, using Macao as a platform with equally strong “crossover” traits, is whether the porcelain capital can “present artworks embodying modern concepts to the world.” This is also the essential power needed for its ceramics to develop steadily and write a new chapter in the new era.
Chinese craft master Mr. Liu Wei hopes that this exhibition can introduce Jingdezhen artisans and their craftmanship to the world. He also looks forward to working with artists and cultural institutions from Macao and worldwide to explore the limitless possibilities of ceramic art and drive the ceramic industry development of Jingdezhen on an international scale for cultural and economic rewards.
Chinese craft master Mr. Liu Wenbin noted that the innovation of bringing traditional porcelain painting to life on digital screens is not a departure from traditions but facilities their transmission and takes them to broader horizons. Ceramics is the foundation of Jingdezhen, whereas the Maritime Silk Road is the road connecting to the world and digital technology is the bridge to the future.
Macao artefact expert Mr. Zhao Qiang remarked that the story of Clark porcelain is essentially about how a “small place” has been linked to a “big world.” A city is truly iconic not for being “unconventional” but for “upholding integrity and innovation,” namely upholding the roots of the civilization while also innovating the dialogue format. Macao has never ceased its “dialogue” but keeps writing a new chapter of “mutual appreciation between civilizations.”
The “Ceramics, Art Strokes, and Maritime Silk Road” cultural salon was also held during the Art, Culture and Tourism Seminar, where a number of artists gathered and created calligraphic works and paintings related to ceramic culture. National craft masters improvised paintings on bisque plates, depicting the Maritime Silk Road landscapes or the fusion between Macao and Jingdezhen, and acclaimed provincial artists joined in and created paintings featuring the “eight scenic spots of Macao” as well as calligraphic works. Making artworks on ceramics with their ingenuity, the artists jointly built a splendid bridge of cultural exchange between Jiangxi and Macao.
